Friday free play: Florida at Pittsburgh

Courtesy of Handicapper Jim Feist Florida has a terrible offense, averaging just over two goals per game. How about 16 goals in seven games? That stumbling offense plays a first-place Pittsburgh team, one with a terrific defense, allowing 19 goals in nine games. The Penguins are on a 4-0 run allowing 1, 2, 1 and 1 goals respectively! What would you expect from the defending Stanley Cup champions, as they pushed their record to an NHL-best 8-1? The Pens are coming off a 5-1 win over St. Louis where Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury made 22 saves to improve to 8-0, setting a career high for most consecutive victories. Don’t worry Georges, the boys are proud of ya

Georges Laraque apologized this week for making a commercial for an alcoholic energy drink with scantily clad women. He’s taking heat from feminists who say the ad is sexist, the NHL for promoting an alcoholic drink, and the holier-than-thou mainstream media. The truth is, most men would high-five Laraque for the ad. In my previous life as an online journalist at TSN.ca I used to interview Georges regularly. Great guy. Very sharp. He worked hard to project a positive media image. I’m sure he’s worried he has shattered that carefully crafted image. But don’t worry Georges, you still have the backing of 99 percent of male (and likely female) hockey fans, You can’t please everyone, especially the politically correct mainstream media and left-wing liberal commies. As for the NHL, fuck ‘em. By the way, the energy drink is called Octane 7.0. If I still drank booze, I’d buy one as a sign of solidarity with the big

East Coast vs. West Coast in the Big Apple

After losing their season opener to the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, the New York Rangers have bounced back in style, winning five straight. The Rangers look to keep that streak going tonight when they host the Los Angeles Kings, who have also been red-hot. The Kings have won four consecutive clashes after a 6-3 defeat to Phoenix in their opener. The Kings, who failed to reach the playoffs for the sixth season in a row, will be looking to win their fifth straight for the first time since the early months of 2006. The Rangers, meanwhile, have not won six consecutive games since 2006.
