Evidence of why Proline/parlays are a bad bets
Posted Under: General
For the past month, I’ve been posting free three-team parlays. I’ve posted seven in total and for each one I’ve wagered $10.
Although I have gone 12-9 on my picks, I have not won a single three-team parlay – as I’ve said before, it’s hard enough to pick one winner, let alone three in one night.
Since I bet $10 on each parlay, I’ve lost a total of $70.
If, however, I would have wagered $10 on each game separately at one of my favorite online sportsbooks, such as Bet365.com or Bwin.com, I would have cut my losses significantly.
For instance, betting on odds to win, which include overtime and shutouts, I would have earned $86.20 on my 12 winners and lost $90 on my nine losers for a net loss of only $3.80.
If I had taken the more lucrative and slightly more risky regulation time odds, which do not include overtime and shutouts, I would have gone 10-11 on my picks.
The reason I would have a losing record is because two games were decided in a shootout. So, even though I had the correct side in these two games, my wagers would have lost because I opted for the more lucrative regulation time odds.
Nevertheless, despite having a losing record on my 21 picks, I still would have earned $97.10 on my 10 winners and lost $110 on my 11 losers for a net loss of just $12.90.
So you can see, if you are even a slightly better picker than me, which wouldn’t be too hard, you would making healthy profits if you were to bet on games individually as opposed to three-team parlays.
Of course, you can’t bet on games individually through Canada’s government-run sports “lotteries” such as Proline or Sport Select. Unless you go to Vegas, the only place you bet on games individually is online.
As I’ve mentioned before, some of my favorite online sportsbooks include Bet365.com, Bwin.com, Bodog.com, Sportsbook.com and SportsInteraction.com. You can’t go wrong with anyone of these books. They’re all trustworthy, convenient and easy to use.
